News: LOTRO free-to-play relaunch delayed

The European free-to-play relaunch of The Lord of the Rings Online has been delayed so that Codemasters can better prepare for the anticipated "massive increase" in players.

Book 2: Ride of the Grey Company and the Free to Play Store will now be available "later than expected".

"We are really pleased with the performance of the game and excited about the response to Free to Play from our players," said Rowland. "Given the complexities and challenges faced in the preparation and implementation of the new store to work within our infrastructure, we feel more time is needed to deliver the high level of service our players have quite rightly come to expect.

News: Battlefield 1943 released on PC

EA has finally released Battlefield 1943 on PC.

The game costs $15 from the US EA Store, although there's no sign of it on the European Store yet.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Battlefield 1943 were released more than a year ago. And they did very well, both from a critical and commercial perspective.

So long PLF. It's been a long time, ever since GP, seen a lot of people come and go, never got too active but that's what TRF was for, and you saw what that turned into when Josh sold it to that joke of a network.
Taken care of my ass. Josh if you're reading this, yes, I am slightly bitter.

This was a pretty good period of time, the four years I spent at all of the different forums was a blast. Met some cool people too. PLF is the only place from GF that I've posted at for most of this year, and I think it's time for me to fuck off now.

In any case, to be quite honest there's not really anyone I'm particularly fond of who regularly posts here anymore. Not that I'm implying these members are substandard.

That being said, thanks for all the good times, whether they were here, on MSN, at TRF, or wherever else.

Hope PLF gets as active as it once was, and good luck to those who stick around and have stuck around for this long.

Now, I'm not going to sit here and blow sunshine up your ass, but Top Gun has landed on the European PlayStation Store. It's �8 and packs online multiplayer. Brand cash-in, maybe? But a cheaper way to satisfy an aerial combat itch than H.A.W.X. 2.

What's more, Ellie Gibson got to interview Top Gun screenwriter Jack Epps Jr. because of this game. And he came up with such lines as, "Son, your ego is writing cheques your body can't cash."

Less exciting, but worth mentioning nonetheless, is the arrival of Worms 2: Armageddon. The full game costs �12, and there's a free trial to test the soil with.

News: Silent Hill 8 formally announced

A horror game fans "truly deserve".

An eighth Silent Hill game will be released next year on PS3 and Xbox 360, Konami has announced.

This is the same game that was revealed at E3. Czech developer Vatra Games will do the honours.

There's no major brand-renovation being done. Instead, Konami wants to "stay true to the franchise's roots" and deliver, as Shinji Hirano (publisher boss) put it, "A next generation horror game that the fans truly deserve".

News: No new episode for FFXIII - Square

Publisher clarifies earlier reports.

Square Enix has denied reports that the Ultimate Hits International edition of Final Fantasy XIII, which will bring the game to Japanese 360s for the first time, features new content.

"There is no new episode content," a Square Enix spokesperson told Eurogamer.

"Early reports may be confused by a pre-order item accompanying first editions of the release called Final Fantasy XIII: Corridor of Memory, a book of original stories set within Final Fantasy XIII."

News: Neverwinter "a co-op Dragon Age"

Neverwinter may be an online multiplayer RPG, but what it aspires to be most is "a co-op Dragon Age with a touch of Oblivion's exploration", Cryptic's Jack Emmert has revealed.

"We aspire to that," said he to Eurogamer. "Ultimately it will be your judgement, but certainly that's what we're aiming for. This is an online RPG; a co-op Dragon Age with a touch of Oblivion's exploration. That is definitely our goal.

"Dragon Age was a very personal experience, and the Neverwinter project is more about exploration and learning about Neverwinter. You're an adventurer, you've been called here [Neverwinter] and you want to seek your fame and fortune like any true D&D adventurer would.

News: New Dissidia Final Fantasy coming

Square Enix has announced plans to release a new PSP game titled Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy.

According to Shonen Jump magazine (as read by Andriasang), it's due out next year.

Lightning from FFXIII and Kain from FFIV will be playable characters.

News: New Mass Effect 2 DLC fixed

No longer Shadow of the Lairbroken.

BioWare's community liaison Chris Priestly has told fans that the Lair of the Shadowbroker add-on for Mass Effect 2 has been fixed.

"People using Xbox Live for the Xbox 360 can download and play Lair of the Shadowbroker. If you are an Xbox 360 user, please go ahead and enjoy the new DLC," Priestly posted on the BioWare forum.

"Lair of the Shadowbroker should now be fixed for the PC and should be able to be downloaded now for both the PC and Xbox 360.

News: FFXIII 360 heads to Japan, new content

Square Enix has confirmed that Japanese Xbox 360 owners will get to play Final Fantasy XIII after all, with the release of a special edition at the end of this year.

At a Microsoft press conference covered by Andriasang (via VG247), Final Fantasy XIII Ultimate Hits International Edition was given a 16th December release date and a budget price of 4980 Yen by Squenix big-wigs Shinji Hashimoto and Yoshinori Kitase.

This new version of FFXIII will have an Easy Mode, come with a book, and most importantly feature content that was cut from the original version of FFXIII. It's known as Episode I and will be a post-game quest.

News: ME2 360 owners prefer Grunt to Miranda

Xbox 360 gamers preferred team-mate Grunt to team-mate Miranda, although the opposite was true on PC, BioWare has revealed.

"On the PC, people did Miranda's loyalty mission quite a bit, which is where she is trying to connect with her sister and it's more of a touchy-feely plot," exec producer Casey Hudson told IGN. "Not a lot of Xbox 360 players did that one. But the Xbox 360 players did do Grunt's mission a lot more than PC players."

BioWare noted that Xbox 360 owners did 10 per cent more loyalty missions than PC players.

SEGA has refused to comment on an online report that The Conduit developer High Voltage Software is making the Wii version of Captain America: The First Avenger.

Website SEGAbits claims SEGA drafted High Voltage in to make the 2011 movie tie-in because it "was apparently happy with what they did with Iron Man 2".

The Wii version of Iron Man 2, which High Voltage created, currently has a Metacritic review score average of 41 out of 100.
